Thread: The weather appears to have brought the young birds out!

  1. #1

Default The weather appears to have brought the young birds out!

I have been lucky enough to capture some video yesterday and today of a few youngsters out to explore the world.

A young robin catching a couple of flies...he hasnt got his red breast yet!

The starlings are now starting to get their colour too - and that young robin is getting nosier - appeared on the ground beside me towards the end of this one...

A y oung goldfinch having a bite to eat - can see the colour on his wings now, but no red or black on the head yet. (apologies for the short bit of commentary!)

Couple of doves also popped in for a bite to eat - they are almost fully grown now!

These final two videos were totally unexpected.
I heard a very faint squeak right beside me - and then out of the bush popped what I believe to be a VERY young wagtail - this one hasnt been out of the nest long.
It was so tiny - absolutely wonderful - felt privelaged.

Then - out of the blue - two of them appeared on one of my feeders.
Cant express how tiny these were - but the bars on the feeder are just under 3/4 inch apart - and then one of them jumped inside!!!!! Absolutely wonderful !!!

That is magic!! I didn't know the young ones looked like that. Our robins seem to disappear in the spring, then reappear in the fall.
    Ta-Ta for now!

Lovely, and I have to admit that I would not have recognised that as a robin. But then I know very little about birds

Wow, these are amazing! I had no idea baby robins weren't red breasted. Thanks for sharing these.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Lots of young birds out round here with short shorts and low tops.

I got the species wrong in the last 2 vids.

It is not a young wagtail - its a young long tailed tit.

Bought a second niger seed feeder for the Goldfinches.

We have a colony (or whatever the correct term is) of these in a tree in the garden - at least 20 of them live there.

They seem to be quite happy!

ANd more - with a song from one of my resident robins!
