    Default international shipping question

    Hello,

I am selling from the U.S. and was looking into shipping books internationally. Am I correct in saying that for a 2 lb. book it costs over $18 to mail? If so, I really don't think someone overseas will pay these prices.

Thank you for your help in confirming this.

Check on the USPS site.....I do know it's pretty silly money - don't know if they still have the flat rate approx $13 for an thin cardboard envelope....you can fit a lot in that.....I get boxes from my girls and some of them, tho not heavy - are silly money. Postage has gone up, and I don't think you can do surface mail anymore. good luck.
    Ta-Ta for now!

I think international postage is outrageous!

I imagine at lot of it will be due to the price of oil but also due to the high cost of all the scanning equipment they have at the airports fro customs and bombs etc.

I looked up 2 pounds to the U.K. in a flat rate envelope and it is $13.95! If I use my own envelope it is about three dollars higher!

What I would like to know is how come the Chinese can ship to the USA for such a low price ?

They still use the same airplanes, the same oil, and I imagine their pilots get paid pretty well as well.

Shipping will be much more expensive in the future…If you’re selling International try to sell ‘’lightweight items’’…no other choice…AMEN…...

Hi Patty...I offer all my books at The Book Rack to overseas. If the book will "fit" into a flat-rate envelope I charge a flat rate of $14.50 to all countries. However, those books, the big guys, would get shipped USPS Priority Mail Int'l....aaaack! Surprisingly I have, on occasion, sold some pretty hefty books to Italy, Germany, and the UK.....go figure! Best of luck to you!

From the UK I offer a surface option as well as an airmail option.

A 1Kg book would cost £13.26 to USA by airmail, and £8.15 to USA by surface.
    £13.26 for 1Kg is a shade more than your $18 for 2lb.

Noone has ever selected surface mail yet, but I still offer it because I reckon that people are happier paying £13 when they know they could have it delivered for £8.

    a

Well I get rather confused whenever I look at the variations in Postal charges for sending out of the US.

I found the following to be the cheapest set of rates ...
Maybe someone inside the US could confirm whether this is the cheapest way to go? iwiw60 ?
