Thread: Number of views dropping?.

This has been my worst month ever since I started selling years ago. It's not just online selling either my cousin wrote to me how tourist numbers have slumped in London, especially at the British Museum and the V&A, so I think it's the economy in general.

Well, whatever the reason, it is downright depressing.

My books are just not selling (on holiday setting at the moment) on either side. Even the river has dried up.

One thing that mystifies me: in these cash-strapped times, why are the charity shops not dropping their prices and having sales? I have taken bags of books to Oxfam, Acorns, Cancer etc. and they are still languishing on the shelves at ridiculously high prices.

Agree 110%, I know I have. Also summer is the time many folks go on vacations.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

There is a theory out there that online sales are slower in the summer months as people spend more time outside rather than in.

And of course it is summer in the UK and the USA - ebids two biggest markets.

Not yet, Julie. It is Spring in the UK and low sales cannot be blamed on that: the children are still at school and half-term is not until the end of the month. Our summer holidays don't begin until July when the schools break up.

The charity shops need to pay the rent for their shop fronts, so they probably need to sell the books at the higher prices. We are fortunate that with eBid Seller + we only pay for sales, and not for listing ... and not for shop fronts.

Another thought that just crossed my mind that might be slowing down sales is that lots of people will be having money taken out of their bank accounts this month for their Olympic tickets !

The point is, if they reduced the price of their books they would probably sell more.

My son's mil managed a charity shop, so we know first hand that unsold books are either skipped or sold for a pittance by the ton to dealers.
Now, if they had 50p boxes, the waste would be cut. But, that is not the principle they work to.

They are given these books to SELL - not to dump. Dumped books don't pay for shop fronts neither do they buy wells for people in Africa.

And then there are the fabulous salaries paid to the men in offices filled with leather chairs and rubber plants.

Oh.................don't get me started on that one.

But I've noticed lately a marked in reduction in the number of views on many items.I know things are quieter all round, sales on my other sites have slowed a bit but this drop in views is quite large.
Are others noticing a similar thing or maybe I need to drastically alter titles or something.

Something's broken! I have noticed a sharp decrease in views the past few months, too.

I am not sure if this has to do with the new Google Product Search terms gradually going into effect, or if the bad economy means people aren't even looking for bargains online because they don't have any money for more than food and petrol/gas.

We had repeated trips to the hospital around Easter, and we noticed the traffic was practically non-existent. People stayed home instead of getting out and about, so it is likely that our prospective customers have empty piggy banks.

They would likely sell more. I remember the 80s when I would load up on my favorite 10 cent books at the thrift stores and have several months reading for $6. BUT ... if they sold the books I really wanted for 50 cents, they would have sold me less books, still received the $6 I had for books ... and had more product left for another buyer with $6 in their pocket. So I suspect this is part of the reasoning. The books move slower ... but for more money.

Or maybe they just like having a full bookshelf ...?
