Thread: Light Blue Touch Paper (and then get beaten up)

I don't sell many books so I can't comment on sales of books on ebid. But book sales must be down or the second largest book chain in the U.S. would not be going under: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-0...lion-debt.html

A more on topic title to your thread may have got more reps one.
I thought it was about fireworks day.
My computer time is valuable and I don't have time with superflous titles.

Yes as lejouerdepipeau says, the subject of advertising has been done to death.
We would all like ebid to advertise more.
But we all know that serious advertising costs serious money.
No one has ever come up with an advertising budget when I have asked them to..
They would have to spend MILLIONS on tv to make ebid a household name. And to keep people coming back.

    Regarding books
    I love books
But I only buy when I have spare money - there is a recession on.
Every man and his dog has some books at home they want to sell to make space or raise some cash.
And people only have so much time, if you spend more time watching the news on the internet etc you have less time to read books.
I don't know about Kindle affecting sale yet.

Your sales on 2 specialised book sites were not exactly stellar.
And it seems that you may need to improve your listings from the advice given above.

Sure you paid a one off lifetime fee, but now you have no more fees to pay.

As you know ebid is now the second biggest GENERAL auction site.

    Anyway....

I must take issue with your denial of the recession's responsibility for poor booksales. Of course we cannot lay the blame solely in any one direction. However, 7 sales out of 100 listings feebay is, I am afraid, pretty poor. I say this as a fellow bookseller who used to sell 20/30 every week with very little effort. Booksales HAVE been affected by the recession, by the internet - students cannot afford textbooks and Google - and by the megalisters. Wy megalisters? Because publishers are struggling; books are remaining unsold.
I pointed out in another thread, that during a visit to The Works this week, I found several cookbooks which used to sell for £15 or over without any trouble: The Dairy Book of Home Cookery was priced at £4.99. I cannot compete with that. My books are struggling so much on ALL sites that they now find their way to the charity shops - Gift Aided for maximum return.

It is sad, it is depressing....but, hey, there is always something to sell - DIVERSIFY!
Been reflecting on this and have decided to take your advice: and am diversifying. Good luck and stay bless x

    Thank you, Nigel.

Good luck with whatever you decide to list.
