There is an exhibition on at the British Museum at the moment on Afghanistan.
It makes the point that Afghanistan has had 3000 years of culture as the crossroads between India and the North and between China and the West, and that what is happening there at the moment is a blip in history.
I am suspicious of propaganda, but seeing the artefacts from 2000 years ago gives you some respect and hope for the future of the people there, though the Taliban who destroyed huge Buddhist statues in one part, are not good news for Afghanistani culture.
