Apple (the fruit) question. Does anyone know what kind this is?

Hubby remembers having some apples when he was younger that were red and yellow striped. The inside was a bit dry.....not juicy like red delicious, and the texture, he says was a bit like cheese................anyone have a clue what these were called, or if they are still grown? I'm thinking this would have been about 40 years ago.............thanks.

Mmmmmm, I love apples, they take me back to growing up in upstate NY with all the apple orchards; almost every year we took a class field trip to one of the local orchards - fun, educational and we got free apples to take home with us.

Your Majesty, I hope you find hubby's apple - just don't play William Tell with him unless he asks nicely...
