Angry AAAARRRGGGHHHH - Epson printers! [steam-vent]

My history of Epson printer ownership:
C64 - epic printer, got second hand, lasted me three years. Loved on bended knee. Decided, when that went down the pan, to stay with Epson... what a mistake:

    S20 - Lasted 6 months... exchanged for:
S21 - Lasted two days... sent back and contacted Epson customer support who suggested I get an all-in-one printer as more reliable: So I went to Argos and got
    SX115 - Lasted 3 months...exchanged for
SX115- Lasted 6 months exchanged yesterday for
    SX415....

In the meantime I have got really fed up and contacted Epson. Went through all the techincal questions, yes I had been doing everything right. They said they could exchange for me, "in a few weeks, cant say when", or that they could sell me a new one. for £119!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (cue me demanding postal address for a big complaint to Epson)

Anyway, I dragged the second SX115 10 miles over to Argos on the bus yesterday and they exchanged it again, but I am hoping this will be the last Epson printer I own. A friend of mine is getting rid of an HP printer in a few weeks and from online reviews it looks a lot more reliable, and she has agreed to sell it to me. I cant be without a printer with University, supply teaching and the theatre group, just hope the SX415 holds up long enough...

I have an Epson SX215 and it has been no trouble at all. It is a bit slow in printing - and noisy - but apart from that it is quite efficient.

youre lucky, and thats a relief (hopefully) as my Mum recently went and bought an SX215. Needless to say with my experiences, she has been getting a bit worried. She hasnt set it up yet though...

Think it all depends on the actual machine you get rather than make or model. I am on my THIRD Epson SX200, before I got
one that worked properly. Had to keep taking the machine to a service centre in Birmingham. Two exchange machines later,
this one seems ok. I also use a HP 6310 all in one, given to me by a friend. Nice machine, but the ink is not cheap !

hmmm... fingers crossed then. But surely for what one pays, it should be a reliable thing.

I have been told that most machines are "given away" at less than cost price. Apparanly, it is the ink, where the big money is made !

I use HP, they seem to get along with my system, i have an All-in-one, and a deskjet 970 CSE, both hooked to my system, no problems. The older deskjet 900 series printers are very good. They print well on just about any paper you can run thru them.
