I find that interesting too. Maybe because google are not owned by fee-bay. No one seems to like them very much on this website.

I'm pretty sure I signed up for that but I plan to confirm with Paypal.

Do they give any explanation for the increase?
    That'll be the day!
Also offer Moneybookers (do not like their new name) but the service is cool.
Has anyone heard exactly "when" Moneybookers plans on switching over to SKRILL?

Plenty of people here have no problem with ebay and use it all the time, we just don't bang on about it like the disenchanted do.

    Interesting/annoying I'd say

Yes GC started out much cheaper than PP and, for 6 months or so, seemed like a breath of fresh air and a genuine competitor in the online payments market. After that 'honeymoon period' they just copied the PP standard fees model from top to bottom. I can't remember reading any official explanation for them doing so.

Good point and, as has been noted in previous posts, a PP micropayment account can actually give much better value for money compared to anything GC currently offers.

yes, i do find there are lot of 'disenchanted' people here. It was a little off-putting at first but I guess it's good that people have found a site where their opinions are actually taken into consideration.
these forum posts have been really insightful so I think I'll stop losing sleep over google checkout

There is a a merchant account with Paypal but you need to do over 1500 per month.

    0.00 to 1500 3.4% + 0.20 per month
    1500 to 6000 2.9% + 0.20 per month
    6000 to 15000 2.4% + 0.20 per month

They dont put themselves out to advertise this account.

These are the transaction fees at the moment (US$)

    Paypal:
    $0.00 USD - $3,000.00 USD = 3.4% + $0.30 USD
    $3,000.01 USD - $10,000.00 USD = 2.9% + $0.30 USD
    $10,000.01 USD - $100,000.00 USD = 2.7% + $0.30 USD
    $100,000.00 USD = 2.4% + $0.30 USD

    Google Checkout:
    Less than $3,000 = 2.9% + $0.30
    $3,000 - $9,999.99 = 2.5% + $0.30
    $10,000 - $99,999.99 = 2.2% + $0.30
    $100,000 or more = 1.9% + $0.30

As you can see, Google Checkout is cheaper.

Would be neat to see the figures for Paypal micro fees & Moneybookers shown with these figures.
