Thread: Selling brand name goods

  1. #1

    Question Selling brand name goods

    Hello friends on eBid!

    I recently contact eBid Customer Support about selling a brand name fitness DVD boxset, in which I will not mention for legality issues. I am wondering how each seller on eBid feels about selling brand name items on eBid, for example if I can not list this particular DVD boxset on eBid; based on eBid's policy "We do not allow the listing of "Brand Name Fitness DVD boxset" on eBid due to Potential Infringement of "Brand" Trademark/Intellectual Property rights. "Brand" cannot be sold online. Only licensed distributors offline. Thanks for checking with us. Best WisheseBid Support Team"

    Based on this information and enlightenment I can only presume that any brand name DVD; be it Disney or any other studio release would be banned too... unfortunately this is not the case.... if this were true then does eBid "ban" the sale of brand name goods, apparently not... let me hear your thoughts and suggestions on selling brand name goods without feeling eBid's wrath...

    Thanks,

    John C.

    P.S. please participate in the poll

    If a "brand" says that they only allow the sale of their "brand" via certain methods, then that is up to them as the "brand" owners. And if the "brand" owners decide on certain methods, then why should eBid over-rule this (which could be a very costly legal matter)

    If you cannot sell "brand" x on eBid or elsewhere online sell brand y if possible

    IMO you presume wrongly. You asked eBid about ONE brand name and they have given you an answer on ONE brand name. They have not said anything to you about other brand names.

    Its eBid's website and if they want to ban a item or brand they can.
    My posts only state my own opinions, unless I've stolen them from someone else

    I can see your point, however this "brand" is all over the net from -Bay to the the river that runs down in S. America... I just don't understand how all these other sellers on eBid are getting away with selling Disney movies on eBid, maybe I am looking at it the wrong way, but how do we know that the dvds that are sold on here do not infringe on the copyright legality of the studios and the companies that sell them? I have a "Brand" dvd boxset sitting right next to me that I am wanting to sell in eBid, I have tested it and everything is in working order, but I am between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the Copyright Infringement issues, this brand is sometimes shown on television, whose to say that someone can not buy it and decide they do not want it, well in eBid's case I can only see one solution, well actually 3; throw it in the trash, give it to a friend or let is collect dust...

    OP - Your poll is rather flawed. There is no problem selling branded goods on eBid as long as it is line with the requirements of the 'brand' owners. I think on another site, there is a problem with selling 'Because you're worth it' products. That is a ban imposed by the brand owners - not the site.
    As raindropsies has said, you will have to find another brand to sell.

    Good luck with whatever you are selling

    @TonyBridger,

    Thank you very much for your response, I am just concerned that if I list some other brand name items; such as Nintendo or Sony products that I will be scrutized for those and the listings be removed... that is all this product is a brand name fitness dvd boxset that I aquired everything is in working order, there are plenty of them being sold on -Bay yet none being sold on eBid, maybe that is my alert... I guess when it comes to selling brand name items I should do my research and find things that are being sold in vast amounts on eBid, then again you have competition to deal with then...

    Thanks,

    John C.

    I used to sell a lot of Disney products on eBid, I could prove that they were / are genuine Disney products (but not DVD's).
    I currently have a few Disney products, mostly on VHS. There is no law in the UK (that I am aware of) that prohibits the sale of used Disney films. However I have never ventured into the selling of new movies from Disney.

    I would re-contact admin and make sure they are completely clear as to what you are selling and what you are selling is genuine. It seems odd that official Disney DVD's cannot be sold on eBid

    hello op , I think I know what you mean here ? your poll might have said unsure or dont know...but if this yes or no poll was going to it conclusion .... it could mean if about 20 members voted to say no....it would mean that no brand named items would be allowed for sale....or if the reverse had the same number , then yes open the gate to all and sundry...but I would suggest to all members....think how little votes are received for any poll....it is the same FEW members who do vote...then take the number of voters against the number of members.....in fact , look at the number of votes against the number of views...it is still a very low percentage.....so any poll would seem a waste of time.............papa.

    @papagran40

    In some strange way I do see your point... I just wanted to see how many people feel that brand name items should be allowed to be sold on eBid, and how many others are opposed to the idea... just a general poll that is all
