    Default Mentioning an external website.

Does anyone know what the rules are with regards mentioning an external website on your "All About Me" page. I know that some folk personally don't like it, but what are the eBid rules?

The terms and conditions don't seem to mention it.
The selling rules only prohibit it on your auction posts.
The "What's My All About Me" page says (with bits I think relevant highlighted):
"This is where you can upload your photo and information about yourself or your business or anything you want. These details will be shown on your "All About Me" page, buyers frequently view these pages to learn and to gain trust about the sellers they are buying from."

I do currently display a link, mainly to allow users to get contact details via my own website, my prices are the same both on eBid and on my own site. But I'll happily remove it if there is an actual rule that I'm breaking.

Can anyone give a definite answer?

    Ta.

Check with support - it doesn't matter what we think. Personally, I don't like it, but I think when I was asking about it, Support said that they don't want it in the listings....they are more tolerant of that in the About Me. But check with them......

Yes, the rules state that external contact details are not allowed in the listings.
I emailed support about having my street address in my About Me page and they said it was OK.

I myself, do not think it is fair, to include your own website in an online auctions system, whatever your prices are.

Hi Julie , aqre you sure they said it was ok to put your street address in....I would say this is an off site link , just the same as a web address...but good for you if it is ok......papa.

Have wondered about this myself! I would not mind if someone put their website on their "About Me Page" because I don't have to click on it. I never click on banner links either. Would be interesting to know Support's stand on this issue.

BTW, are you allowed to have a blog on your "About Me Page" or in your signature?

    Yes I am sure.
I sent a copy of the email to ByKimbo
I'll see if I can find it.

I can't see how my street address can be counted as a link ?
I put it there just to re-assure people buying from me, that I do exist and have a return address in case of any problems.

Depends what site it is ?

As far as i know it is a legal requirement in the UK for businesses to display there contact details name address email vat number etc. so cant see any problem with non business sellers doing so.

Personally i see no problem with displaying a link to your own shop in your all about me page. as a buyer it gives me more comfort if i also knew the seller runs a web store (some place to go if there is a problem).

Most of the ebay sellers i buy from have there own sites and use them to display there ebay items, every little helps.

as long as it is not abused.

    Hi Julie,
you say that "the rules state that external contact details are not allowed in the listings".
    This is odd ...

If I wanted to buy from you, you say that you are not allowed to put your personal details in your listings, right?
When I check out your 'About Me' page, you have your full address.
Seems a bit contradictive to me.

I think it is unneccesary and unsafe to add your home address.
    You say
"I put it there just to re-assure people buying from me, that I do exist and have a return address in case of any problems".

You may well be soliciting unwelcome callers to your home.
I personally would not like to publish my home address to all and sundry.
But that is me, and if you are quite happy to publicise your home address, then that's fine.

Thank you for your reply Jimbo. What do you mean by "what site it is"? Do you mean if it is your own website? and not a major online competitor like "the bay"?

I just mean not a adult site or offensive site , i don't think for one second adding a link to Amazon or ebay will negativity affect eBid.

however, i think the rule last time i checked is eBid do not allow links to ecommerce sites. how strict the rule is no one knows, but i expect if its your own site with links to your ebid auctions i don't think they will mind.
