    Default is it me?

I had an item listed for sale/buy or best offer (not here) someone contacted me to say "Hi, regarding the above bowl, the price you are asking is very high. I like the bowl, but want to know the lowest price you will accept.
It is very nice, and I am going to Alexandra Palace next weekend to
do an Antique and Collectable Fair, but need to buy items which I can
    sell on.

i thought that was quite rude..am i just over sensitive at the mo ?

LOL!!! Hey - it was worth a shot, don't you think? Aren't you a charity?? Isn't it your job to help them make money at your expense??!!! I sometimes find dealers a bit callous...................

I agree, that was rather rude, but then again some folks don't appreciate that there is a thing called tact. As my grandmother used to say, consider the source - they might well have been raised in a barn, (notice I didn't say by wolves)...

Best wishes for many sales to all,

I'd say that you're not over reacting in so much as she was quite abrupt in her question. but, bear in mind that if she's hoping to buy the bowl to sell on at an antiques fair, she's a dealer and they do tend to have a different way of talking to people. Her main goal is to get the bowl and the easiest way would be to tell you that you're selling it too expensive. It would be interesting to know how much she would intend selling it on for - at a guess I'd say nearly double your asking price. Don't worry about it, just take it with a pinch of salt and remember where it came from. As to whether or not to accept her 'offer' and reduce the price - that depends on how much you want to sell the bowl and whether or not its in the way while you're waiting for a better mannered buyer who will treasure it for all time )

As I am sure you are aware jean the normal trade discount between dealers is 10% (and they would then mark up 20% on their cost price)..... therefore offer her 10% discount and see what they say

    Re-wording her email.............

I would like to buy this bowl, but I want to make an even bigger profit than you when I re-sell it.

I would leave it listed at the price you have it at.

Different matter if you had 10 of them, and she wanted to purchase all 10.

there is an old joke in the trade that goes....

If 5 antique dealers were marooned on a desert island with a single chest of draws they would all make a nice living thank you
