Thread: Quick round-up of views, please?

It seems to me that listing "regular" stuff shows the generosity of the seller. These are items that the seller expected to sell for a profit.

What are we supposed to offer?

The odd things that don't fit into our categories? Once all of those are gone, where will new items come from? I know many people offer handmade items, but not everyone has time to do that, and I for one, have absolutely no talent.

I've been lax lately in participating in the YDC (too many things that I absolutely have to get done first). When I do participate, I convert some of my existing listings. If people object to that, I guess I'd better not start listing in the YDC again, because that's all I have to offer.

My point exactly. People selling their usual items for YDC are basically donating the item for charity. From the comments so far I think the majority of people don't object to that.

    Agrees with everyone here.

Not that I have listed but have done buying and would be happy to have the chance of getting something I wanted on an auction rather than a BIN.

Self promoting? Tosh! the very fact that you have donated stock that gets you profit is generous and that is what Charities rely on - peoples' generosity.

I agree with everybody else who's posted so far. What could possibly be wrong with listing your "usual" stuff? If it's "usual", that would imply you have realistic hopes of selling it and it's a popular product. It's like going to a charity live auction and having the opportunity to bid on something like a handmade quilt or a trip to England, and possibly winning it for less than "usual" price. And if it goes for a high price or any price at all, our YDC recipient benefits.

I thought briefly of playing devil's advocate but couldn't come up with objections to offering "usual" stuff in a YDC campaign. Deeper minds than mine will have to come up with them. Kimbo, if you feel up to it, what was some of the reasoning people used to complain? Sometimes I am amused and surprised at what other people find to criticize.

My feeling is you can only sell what you have (or can get your hands on) or it's a scam......ie: we are all doing the same thing....selling items. Where they come from and what they are pretty much doesn't matter, as someone, somewhere, will want it at some time.
    Ta-Ta for now!

As I said at the start, it's generally been about using YDC to promote one's own stuff. I'd rather not dredge up the details - least said. :-) I shall go and divert a few current auctions in a good cause now!
