it hasn't.... that is how the number looks on some books.... so at the time you just copied it as it was printed... you just missed the "I" off when you typed it....

Most UK phone numbers would be written xxxxx xxxxxx or xxxxx xxx xxx or (xx) xxxx xxx xxx (if it's written as an international system number)
