Red face Sellers who use dropshippers

    Hello,

I am writing actually, not to complain. I have had no sales in the 2 months I have been listing, however, I would like to post some observations.

Ebid is a GREAT and personable place I am finding out. I really like that! I am sure that my lack of sales are mostly because of distrust. I have zero feedback, I only ship to the U.S. plus I use suppliers that drop-ship my items for me.

I live in a very small town with little resources, therefore I have chose to use some reliable suppliers to drop ship items for me. The purpose of this email is to ask the U.S. forum users for support. Buyers have had some bad experiences buying from sellers who use suppliers that dropship, but I believe it is not the suppliers fault, but the fault of the seller in most instances.

First of all, it is the seller's responsibility to watch stock. Supplier's inventory reports are available EVERY DAY, and I believe it is just laziness by the seller not to take the time to check all of their listings, and make sure that their items are available. Seller's list thousands of items from the supplier's stock, but most fail to watch the inventory numbers. It is very time consuming, but I check my stock every single morning. Lastly, damaged merchandise - Just like buying from a major retailer - new items can arrive with defects. Since new items are unopened whether using a dropship supplier or not - I expect this to happen from time to time. Here again, I don't think dropshipping is to blame. Each supplier specifies their return policy clearly - it is up to the seller to know their policy, and have their listings reflect this. In addition, the seller needs to provide excellent customer service. I would rather loose money and give a refund than have an unhappy customer - I believe it is the seller's responsibility to go that extra mile .

I know this was long winded :-) but I wanted to inform buyers that it is not using a supplier that dropships that is the problem - please don't be leery to buy a product that is shipped from supplier's warehouse. Just make sure that you read a seller's feedback to make sure they don't have a habit of selling out of stock items. (of course I have none to read!)

    Well, that's all!
Any one who can view my listings and my about me page - I love your honesty here, and would love your input on my listings and my page - I am SO ready for some sales!

I couldn't agree more...I use dropshippers for a variety of items in my stores and have never had a problem with either the quality or fast shipment to my buyers. With that said, I do my homework when it comes to dropshippers and only use those with excellent track records.

Oh yeah...welcome to eBid, and best of luck in your venture! Be sure to put links to your stores in your signature block here in the forums...you never know who might visit and buy!!

Yep - me too. I also use dropship suppliers. I currently use four different suppliers here in the UK, and they're all pretty reliable (one, in particular, is excellent!). And I agree - it is the seller's responsibility. I list far too many products to check them daily, but I do try to keep an eye on them. My policy is that if my supplier hasn't got something that someone orders, I try my hardest to source it from somewhere else, even if I end up loosing money, because customer satisfaction is essential. I do, occassionally have to refund a buyer - but it is very rare, and, rest assured, the product can be found NOWHERE else!

And a warm welcome to Ebid from me too!!

    Regards,
    Andy

I use dropshippers for around 25% of my items - never had any problems.

I also dropship my dog items for quite a few groups etc that have their own website.
    Keeps things ticking over.

I think I'm too much of a control freak to use a drop shipper but would consider doing it for someone as I supply wholesale away from any platforms so know I can match any prices for my skincare & most of my perfumes.

I was asked last Christmas why I don't just get somebody in to help me with packing as I was so busy but I just couldn't do it, need to know I got it right (even if I don't all the time then I only got myself to blame)

Mags - I think that is very cruel, poor woofer!! (I also dropship my dog).

And here was me thinking you were a good man! )

Dropship is a good tool for sellers. I don't currently use dropship but have in the past... I am looking into using them again as I have always had good service but you do need to do research first...

I think good drop-shippers, like good wholesalers, are a closely guarded business advantage - people put a lot of work into researching their sources. You might need to resort to bribery! *grin*
