    Thank you, Jane. Is it a gender issue? Men concentrating on strategic issues and women being concerned with people?

    A little harsh Madelaine to consider it a gender 'issue'

    It's wrong (in our eyes), it's barbaric and often unfair on many women that are often falsely accused of adultery. However wrong it may be, we as a country have our own issues without the need to state right / wrong to others.

    Will the petition make a difference? Probably not... Would it be nice if signatures made the difference to the things we feel are unjust? TOTALLY.

    I do however wish you all the best and if you manage to pull it off I know where to come when I start my petition to 'put a salary cap on footballers wages'

    I asked.. didn't say it was.. this thread is hardly statistically significant but I'll back a cap on footballers' wages! In the same vein, did you know that there is a cap on wages in the John Lewis Partnership? If I remember correctly the top pay mustn't be more than 40 times the bottom. I may be wrong about the multiple, but the principle seems to me to be very sound.

    I wasn't aware of that, but sounds good to me! :-)

    It sounds like you need to visit Amnesty International's site where you'll see that petitions DO make a difference.

    Tomorrow, Iran could execute Sakineh Ashtiani.

    Our global outcry stopped her unjust stoning sentence in July. Now we have 24 hours to save her life.

    Iran's allies and key UN powers are our best hope -- they could persuade Iran of the serious political cost of this high-profile killing. Click below to send them an urgent call to action and send this to everyone -- it only takes three minutes and we are her last chance:

    @madeleine.

    I just signed the petition.

    I don't think it will make the slightest bit of difference, these hard line muslims do what they want.
    (especially Iran's leader (i cant spell his name)

    This is why the west must not let them immigrate to the west, and must not let bring in their own customs and laws. They want to take over the world. This is what the Teleban are all about keeping ancient tribal customs.

    But, we in the west have let our standards down too much.
    There needs to be some balance.
