England football hero Paul Gascoigne is recovering in hospital after he was injured in a car crash, police said.
The former midfield maestro, nicknamed Gazza, is sitting up in bed and chatting to visitors but is not expected to be discharged, a hospital source confirmed.
Gascoigne, 43, was one of three people injured when the car they were in smashed into a building on Newcastle's Quayside on Sunday night.
