It is about 14.5 inches tall. The floral pattern is black on a slightly irridescent cream colored background. There is some light incising on the pattern. NO marks on base for a clue . . . . any ideas??

Nice find! Late 1800's or early 1900's design I THINK. I am not an expert. Have you tried an antique dealer? I would say wait for Antiques Roadshow, but that probably doesn't go in the USA does it?
No idea, but it's gorgeous! Would look super with a bunch of bright peonies in it!! (I just see the peonies in the garden are starting to bloom!!!! Made me think of it....)

It is? I've only ever seen the British one. They find some pretty amazing stuff on that show!
It's a vase.
Oh that is pretty and so unusual! You are in California, I wonder if it is an older Chinese or Japanese import? Has that far east look to it. Does not look like Europe at all, and sure does not look like California pottery either.
And its a vase, that was my guess too.

Hi,
Luv the vase! But unfortunately, I can't be of much help. I would have guessed-and it is just a guess-that it's a piece that was hand painted in a studio or class. It was probably passed down to family members through the years until, down the line, someone decided they didn't want it anymore. I can't identify the country of origin.

A lovely vase - the shape is typically oriental, most likely chinese. Very hard to see from a photo and judge age.
there are so many reproductions. HOWEVER, it looks good and not having a mark is a plus. It is a good idea
to include a photo of the bottom of a piece anytime you need id. The base can tell a lot even without a marking.
Also, size will help!
All the best! John
