Thread: YDC auction limit count for each participant

The seller doesn't make a profit from YDC auctions. Anyone who is willing to donate 100 items for a charity, and take the time to list and ship them, should be applauded, not criticized.

I prefer to wait until I have a number of suitable items and list them all in one month. It's hard for me to remember that YDC is starting and I sometimes forget to list them soon enough. When I have a few ready to go, I want to list all of them.

I don't think there should be a limit but perhaps an "unwritten rule" to list as many varied items as possible.

Agree. Wonder if the objections were voiced after the announcement that 50 had bids? Hope not.

So what I am saying is that yes listing numbers could drop and then people could say, "no point listing in YDC as not many items get listed" and slowly it could drop to a silly amount, like wise if every seller did what I did it could raise to a silly amount. ...
Just as a comment on that, I admit that when I looked at how many things were already listed I couldn't see much point in listing anything good as it would probably get lost in the crowd, so I just listed the two items I'd previously promised I would. If there'd been a limit of five I'd have probably listed five. I hesitate to put too much "good stuff" up at the moment because I fear it will be swamped in sweeties and stamps or whatever and not reach its true value, so I just stuck to the items I'd promised that I was sure would get attention thanks to the "build up".

I suppose I just can't get excited about pages of stuff going for pennies. Despite that definitely being nearer my personal budget!

I do appreciate that lots of people see YDC in different ways, and have different goals for it - that's why this sort of discussion is so valuable.

We've been asked for our opinions. Voicing that opinion is not a form of criticism, it's joining in the discussion as requested. I'm bidding on some of the items that we're discussing, so I'm certainly not complaining!! But I do think a limit would produce a more varied and exciting YDC. That's just my view, and I don't expect everybody to agree with it. I don't even have some arrogant assumption I must be right. I could be talking total twaddle, it has been known. But we were asked for opinions and I've given one.

Do you have a personal pp account as well?

If you do, then just omit any integrated payment details from your YDC listings....and ask "bidders" to either wait for a (personal) pp invoice or request another payment method.

Ok, my two cents again. Sorry to be so blunt but WTF is the problem. It makes me wonder just what is going on behind the scenes and why, do some people feel left out? Heck it's a charity, not someone's personal auction. It should be open to all and to how many items each person is willing to give to the charity.

I personally don't have a problem with the DVD's, I just wish I could have bid on some of them but they won't work over here. <pout> I commend Paul for all his hard work, to take away from all that he is trying to do is just small of whoever is doing it. It does not take away from the YDC I think it enhances it.

    Thank you Paul.

There is also an issue of putting up very high cost items, when bidders seem to be more motivated to gain "an item of value" for nothing vs bidding up all auctions for the simple sake of supporting a charity/worthy cause.

My largest donations have always been for causes I support, but get nothing in return. Simply give to give for the sake of a good cause.

It is rude and insulting to describe anything someone is willing to donate as cheap or free. I think we have all seen a plain dinner going for thousands of dollars or pounds or euros & nobody even blinks an eye lash about it. It's time to get serious about fund raising. It's about generating bucks for a good cause, not about a snob trip.
