Thread: Goodbye for a few days

  1. #1

Default Goodbye for a few days

I'm about to disconnect my computer and take it into a local shop for virus removal.

I got hit this morning by a nasty bug named avexpertsoft.com

I know how I got it, too, and I should have known better. I got a little popup on the bottom of my screen that appeared to be from my anti-virus program. It wasn't. It said my computer was being attacked and asked if I wanted to stop it. Of course I clicked on "Yes" and the damage was done.

This monster has been eating my system away, the only things that still work are my hotmail account and FireFox. IE, Excel, Word, games, everything else is blocked. I found instructions on how to remove it, but the download was blocked. I contacted my Virus Program vendor, and they sent me instructions on how to upload their software to remove it. Unfortunately, the Control Panel has been hijacked too, so I cannot first remove the current version. So, into a local shop, probably won't be back up until Monday or Tuesday if I'm lucky.

Watch out for this one, it's the worst one I've ever seen.

Poor you - I hope you can survive the withdrawal symptoms. Hope to see you back soon.

    I'm back . . . . I just got FireFox up and running and here I am.

I found a wonderful computer repair shop about a mile from here. They actually got it cleaned up in slightly over one day! And he recovered all my data files (like the spreadsheet listing all the things we have running on eBid and where they're stored). Fastest computer service I've ever had.

I also have a new antivirus and spyware program. Obviously the one I had didn't work very well. This one was recommended by the fellow who fixed my poor computer.

It will take me at least a day to get all my software reloaded, my desk top rebuilt . . . and I lost all my Bookmarks!

And I will never, never, never again click "Yes" on ANY popup. No matter who I think it's from.
