Thread: Parking fine

  1. #1

    Default Parking fine

This is by means of a warning.

My sister in law received a parking fine in the post today.
She parked in a chain store car park which offers 2 hours free parking.
She was there for 2 hours 20 mins, knowing that she had exceeded the 2 hours, but never thought anything more about it.
In this particular car park I have never seen any checking of vehicles, unlike some of those private store car parks where someone tends to walk around tapping number plates into a gadget or writing them down.

The way it was done: she was photographed as she drove in and when she drove out.
Photos with the exact time have been provided with the fine notice.

It will certainly make me think twice before exceeding the time limit in a car park where there is no apparent control/checking.

It would make me think twice about shopping in that store! Two hours limit? They apparently don't want people to waste time browsing.

Another Rip Off Profit sharing scheme:
Supermarket and whoever targeting motorists. thing is 'is it legal ? '
I thought supermarket car parks were private property - And a photo is not as effective as a wheel clamp - How are they able to do this?

    My thoughts exactly!

I do know where they are coming from; because of the location and vecinity of other stores and the severe difficulty to find parking around there; they are obviously trying to restrict the parking to their customers only.

I have been guilty myself in the past of parking there, buy whatever I needed from them and then walk across the road to a few other shops and more then likely exceeding that time limit.

It isn't actually a parking fine because private companies have no powers to issue fines. There are many websites with information on the subject.Morrisons are bringing in this method of checking parking shortly. If that's who it was it's worth her going in & speaking to someone at the customer services desk.I got a ticket for not displaying once & customer services cancelled it there & then.

I wondered about that - apart from the fact that one may well have been driving around for a few minuted trying to find a parking place - I don't know how "keen" they are with their fines.
