When I was a kid in 4-H, I trained a guide dog who went to a woman whose blindness was caused by laser eye surgery. She had both eyes done on the same day, and the doctor made the same mistake in both eyes.

My grandmother decided on the basis of that experience, to have both eyes done on two different days. The first surgery went well but the second was botched. She retained vision in both eyes but they were never able to quite work out the correct lenses for her botched eye so she ended up worse than she started out.

While I know people who rave about how positive their experience was with that surgery, I'd be pretty leery of it myself.

I've spoken to a couple of people who've had this done. They loved being able to go without glasses and were happy with the result but both said the extra expense involved was excessive. Apparently they hadn't been properly informed of all the after-op extras which would entail.

After reading the comments here, I don't think I'll bother even deciding to go for it

Maybe it will improve in the future, but for now my eyesight, bad as it is, is better than taking the risk. I've worn glasses/contacts since I was 8 yrs old. It would be interesting to know the the rate of eye injury in laser patients in car crashes, etc, as I would think the surgery would weaken the structure of the eye, regardless of how successful it might have been. You only, if you are lucky, have two good eyes. I don't think the potential cosmetic convenience outweighs the risk......well, for me it doesn't.
    Ta-Ta for now!

A friend of mine, a lifelong glasses wearer, had both eyes done some years ago. It wasn't about cosmetics or vanity, it was the inconvenience of having to have prescription lenses in things like dive masks, and straps to keep his specs on when sailing, cycling etc. It was hugely successful and he found it very liberating. Experiences vary with such things, as they always will.
