Thread: The truth about the KT.

  1. #1

Default The truth about the KT.

I often see folk going on about off topic threads on the KT, there is no such thing.

What most folk here don't seem to know is that the KT was set up for a bunch of folk who came over from eBay at the same time and they requested that a general chat forum was set up for them, Gazza and Mark were very helpful and set it up for them within hours. The KT has always been a general chat forum for both auction and non-auction related topics.

If you had been here for the first couple of years you would have found that most of the threads were jokes, competitions, or everyday chat. Very few threads had anything to do with auctions because folk tended to use the other forums to ask for help. Right from day one there was a great community feel in the KT because most of us knew each other from ebay, the community feel is not something that built up on eBid, it was brought here by a group of people who had fled ebay and the nastiness on those forums.

To clarify, the KT was sort of "bolted on" to eBids existing forums as a general chat area for a group of people who had requested it after leaving ebay. eBid did not create it as part of their help forums.

Which is why the sub-title of the KT says, "Chat about anything you fancy, renamed especially for our refugee population!!"

I disagree with the basic premise - it is perfectly valid to refer to "off-topic" posts, because as you say the entire KT is designed to be off-topic. That doesn't meant the posts don't exist, just that they're in the right place. So when I say, for example, that I would survive without the off-topic posts, that means if the KT vanished I could live with it. Though I'd rather it stayed.

lol, I think it would cause less confusion if such post's were referred to as "non-auction related" rather than off topic because as the KT was set up for general chat then off topic threads are not possible.

Well some smart Alec would run the risk of a swift kick in the pants then! lol

Okay, we could refer to them as non-auction/sales/listing/buying/bidding threads then?

LOL or how about "off-topic" for short?

Seriously, non-ebidding? No newbies would have a clue what it meant, but that's nothing new
