    Default Categories: Are More Better?

Just starting my store and looked at some of your sites especially the Category/Sub-Categories lists.

    Question:
Is there a real advantage to have or fewer categories? Are subcategories worth the time to do, and if so, is there some standardized listing of the most common categories?

Especially in Books... Where would you draw the line on speedy input versus actual sale results?

I'm just starting and could benefit from you good folks experience. Thanks.........

If there are too many categories, there are not enough listings in them to make it worthwhile.
Each "category" should be treated on its merits. Eg if there are millions of boos, then books warrant a few more categories.

If I'm browsing a store I like to see categories, at least by genre.

Some have all their fiction just dumped into one category, I might buy from them, if I found a book I wanted by using search,
but I'd never bother to browse their store, so they'd miss out on any impulse buy.

    Gothicina thanks.........
I see what you mean. If I am looking for a particular item and there are hundreds listed willy-nilly, I usually see the first page only. (On eBay)

Should have sorted that one out myself! Thanks again...

I buy quite a few books, and I usually search by author or genre if that helps!

I spend more time browsing if I can pick a specific category/subcategory that interests me. Long lists of mixed items don't appeal at all. I usually give up if I have to scroll past a lot of listings that I don't want to see.

I hear that. That's why I want to use you folks best ideas the first time to avoid doing it over, and over, and over.. like I always do.

This time it will be better!
