You might check the date a seller joined eBid. If they have just moved here from another auction site (especially the big one) they're probably experienced and reliable. Also, see what they've put on their "All about the seller" page, which should give you some idea of their reliability. Use good judgment regarding the item and the price. You can also ask the seller for more information with the question box at the bottom of the listing.

I agree. Feedback is not everything, I have many new buyers who have no feedback at all and they are terrific. Everyone starts somewhere.

Of course use common sense: See if join date and feedback mesh. If they joined last month they will have none, that is ok, but if they joined 5 years ago and have no feedback, watch out.

Check out About me section. If they did not bother to write anything there and post a picture, skip em.

As with any site, be very careful to check out a seller when buying expensive items, especially electronics. That seems to be a problem area on every auction site.

Welcome to ebid, you are going to have fun shopping here!!

    Rae that is so true.

And we should not forget that if a seller is truely a professional, feedback or no, their listings will reflect that. Listings will be complete, pictures good, shipping fair, about me page filled in etc. Everything will be polished, neat and clean. Just like a real store.

When I see sections of description missing, no postage given, no weights, all items set up to ship most expensive way, etc. I know they are not good sellers and I would never buy from them. Dollars to donuts they will mess up the sale, overcharge, or get confused if there is a problem.

    Hello, and welcome to eBid

When I joined eBid I used Repatoo to post a link to my positive feedback from the 'bay, put that on my "All About" page. It might still be there? Then I began buying things on eBid to build up positive feedback for myself.

Unless the seller is someone I know from the forums and have seen recently, I will always send them a question before placing a bid. The new seller with zero feedback may be waiting breathlessly by the computer, ready to send the item at once! The experienced user with high feedback may be having some health issues and hasn't gotten around to putting their listings on vacation hold yet --- you never know. Sending a question establishes that the seller is present and may give some clues about how the transaction will go.

I found out about the monthly charity auction, the YDC, and joined that as both a buyer and seller. This helped me build up quick positive feedback from both ends of the transaction and gave me experience using the invoice and After Auction Logs, which were confusing to me for a few months. The other YDC participants were very patient with me and it was good to get a few bumps smoothed over before I started making non-charity sales. There is a charity forum here and a few discussions center on the how-to of the YDC.

    Good luck!

    Hi,
    Welcome to ebid.
I'm a reliable and reputable seller. If you're ever looking for handmade cards, please give me a try.
    Kind regards,
    Cynthia

Hi Mags did you miss this post? I just thought I'd remind you that it's not allowed.

The question is, Do you regard yourself as a reputable seller even though you have zero feedback?

Even though I have a feedback score of 8 on eBid, I have noted in my About Me on ebid that I have a feedback score of over 1500. As has been said previously, if it's a low value item, don't be put off by sellers with zero feedback. Another comment which has been said previously, which I agree with, is that we all had to start somewhere. Also, I have never received feedback for some of the items I have sold.

I meant to add in my previous post, I am also a reputable seller so if it's books, CD's or DVD's you're after, feel free to take a look at my listings.

I wish you well and hope that buyers are not put off by your negative feedback as I am sure you are an equally pleasant seller.
I raised the question about reliable sellers because we have been scammed on the first two items we purchased on ebid. After we had "Won" and paid for the items the following day we were confused that the sellers names appeared with a score through them. We are now in the process of trying to get our money back. So now i hope you understand why I raised the question and why I am now very wary.

Also, there are a lot of buyers who never leave feedback, so not having feedback does not mean the seller is unreliable. For instance I have over 100 positive and 0 negative feedback from buyers on other sites but only a few here. Most of my buyers here have not left feedback.
