The OP's looking for a *browse* by country, not search. I don't think it can be done.

set advanced search to UK only but I guess I must find out what it uses here for wildcards as it wants a keyword to search for where as I just want to browse and so far every one of the items I have looked at in the section I am interested in is overseas ( and there are 20,000 items in the section ).
after setting it to uk only in advanced search browse still showed all items so maybe the advanced search is only for searching as I suspected.
will try again when I get a moment free.

Just click the Advanced Search link on the green bar then type in a keyword (item you are looking for) - either opt for all categories or choose specific category, then opt for the country you want to search in.

I'm sorry, but how is that browsing? That's searching. The whole point of browsing, and of the OP's request, is that one does not have a keyword.

no probs,
as you may see I joined quite a while ago and have been a seller on a certain other site for many years, I just had not been here much.
will now start to see if I can make my rather minimal listings look a bit better and add a few more.
my new ones already have a lot of views so maybe things will sell
