May I suggest that you close this thread at the end of January, formulate the rules, and put them on a sticky thread for all to see.

Anyone violently against the rules does not have to raise for their charity on YDC.

That sounds like a plan There is an old saying that springs to mind - You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time - which kind of sums up the responses so far in the thread.

In truth - no set of rules will please everyone - which shows in some of the posts early on in the thread where some have opted for changes from the current rules - so it shows that there is need for change.

Well Babs, looks like you have a new job on your hands now, writing up the rules new and old. At least the discussion has clarified the position with the existing rules regarding starting prices etc, which will help all of us.
Have fun typing!!!! hopefully it wont affect your back too much.

Babs you have a big job and I am not in the least envious!

If we leave the number out in some listing titles and it is in some will searchers see all if they are not participants who know the differences but just shoppers?

Another idle thought. Quite a lot of people find the YDC difficult to understand when they first come across it. Is there anything in there we can just scrap? Or at least simplify? Be really nice if it could be reduced to a few, succinct and easy to grasp bullet points!

If you leave the number out then it will be easier for me when I'm doing my rounds to see who the competition winner is or who has bid the most to be the one who nominates the next YDC charity. The leaving out of the number is purely for my purposes only - and would be 100% based on trust as to be honest, I don't have the time to go scouring the listings to find out each items starting price. I hope that helps.

What I'm aiming to do is to restructure the rules into simplified phrasing. From the thought train of this thread - we seem to have 2 groups of YDCers - which then there'd need to be 2 sets of rules - both sets will be worded in such a way that they'd be the 'idiots guide to' so to speak and should be fool proof. Although, as with all things 'new' there's bound to be a few questions at the start, and a few complaints because the rules look different, are worded differently, etc. We also have the problem that not everyone reads the rules as was mentioned nearer the start of this thread. When I've sorted the rules, I'll be locking them and I'll ask our hosts G&M if they would be kind enough to make it a sticky so that it is there at the top for all to see.

Picking on another point you make - it would be interesting to know if there is anything that they want to drop. So far - all my suggestions have been cut down in flames so I'm keeping schtum.

It's your baby, of course, but I would think that two sets of rules would be a mistake. You want a single set of rules that allow people to join in in whichever way suits them, surely? You have two sets, you can bet people won't know which to use. However, perhaps I'm picturing something that isn't really what you mean, so I'll wait to see the draft!

Very true! Babs is the very embodiment of "benevolent despot" on this one.
