Thread: YDC Rules - Open Discussion

I like to keep my postage seperate so everyone can see the exact amount that will be going to the nominated charity and because I like to try to list a fair few items so p&p can become a bit expensive.

I also would like to see a different charity nominated every month rather the same one 2 or 3 times in a row.

as the idea is to raise as much money for charity, never understood the set 99p start and would rather start auctions at an higher rate myself.

As for the competiton if it's not started at 99p and ends over a set amount, couldn't the items just be voided from counting.

But then again what would I know? I never read the rules or instructions to do with anything!

    here's my threepenny bit worth

I have taken part in every YDC since July 06 and have never been a 'this months winner' do I care NO..... because taking part in YDC is FUN FUN FUN

I just love the Bidding wars and sneaky Snippers, fighting over old socks, bars of choc's & crazy items - my personal favourite is still The suicidal sheep which I won by the way

YDC is all about raising penny's & pounds for Charity's & good cause's and thats what counts.

    bring it on..........

I have continually told people who have asked on this forum that as long as you mark your listings as available for shipping to a country then your auctions will show on the pages of that country which is what I was led to believe - now I find I should have added - provided of course the users of those pages don't block your listings because you don't happen to live in Britain. So I have over 1,000 listings that no-one is looking at. I despair....

I only do this on YDC because it's such a broad search. Usually when I'm looking to buy something I search everywhere, but YDC is unique in that one isn't looking for "XYZ widget" but for "anything I can vaguely put up with in a good cause". I'm sorry if you find this depressing, clearly that is not my intention, but there are only so many hours in the day and my budget is severely limited, so I have to be realistic about what I bid on even for charity.

    I know

I like the idea of a different nominated charity every month - even if some sellers, like me, stick with their own particular charity for fund raising.

I enjoyed the BCC Pink Friday campaign, and would like to see that kept seperate if we do that again.

Santa seems to have a good point here, perhaps the competition part of the YDC could apply only to items having a certain start price or below.

I made much the same point about things being expected to go over the limit being excluded on page 1 post #8 - the rules are already there, they just aren't enforced.

I was refering to the higher start price bit of Santa's post,
say for instance I wanted to auction off a pair of bedside cabinets for the nominated charity, not everyone wants or needs a new set so there is only one buyer who wants them. If the bidding starts at 99p,even if the bidder puts in a proxy bid of £50 it will sell for the 99p,well although some money is raised, I think we could have got a little more, so if I was able to start at say £20 that one interested bidder will still know they have a bargain, we have then raised £20 for the charity- much better. But having started at such a price it wouldnt be fair, in the competition, on the other sellers who have put their items to start at 99p , who then have loads of bidding on thier items to loose out to an item that only has one bid but raises more money.
    Do you get my drift?
So if I wanted and was allowed under a new rule, to put said drawers into the YDC with a higher starting bid, in the hopes of selling and raising a little more money for the charity of the month, I should not have the listing for the drawers counted into the competition for highest selling item.
