What do bin men do instead when they can't collect the rubbish?

We have not had our bins emptied since 24th Dec, so a good job it's cold otherwise the turkey carcass would be stinking by now!

Just wondered what the bin men do instead when it's bad weather, or is it these boys that do the gritting?

It's been 4 weeks since they last emptied our black bin and 3 weeks for the blue. They were about yesterday as normal but would only empty the bin if we took it up the hill to the main street.

We got our grey (all purpose bin) emptied on Thursday 24 Dec and again today at its normal time. Good service.

Well I would say they sit at home in front of the fire drinking brandy and eating mince pies whilst picking their nose.

Now my Question is this, its rubbish collection day on tuesday, they have forcasted more snow tonight and tomorrow, the roads/pavements are a free Ice-rink do I put my rubbish bin out for collection even though my recycling boxes have been sitting there since last tuesday?

Weather problems - missed bin collections update

Due to the current weather conditions we have been unable to make some refuse and recycling collections.
If your refuse or recycling collection have been missed we will return to collect your waste when it is safe to do so, unfortunately we cannot guarantee when this will be. Please leave your bins and boxes out at your normal collection point until they are collected including on Saturday 9 January 2010.
Unfortunately in some cases we may not be able to return until your next scheduled collection, however we will collect extra waste where necessary. All properties affected by the recent disruption in collections due to the weather will have their waste cleared in due course.
Please note that no brown bin collections will take place until week commencing 18 January 2010.
