Default Tech Help Needed with Printer/Scanner

Hi, I am having problems with my Canon printer/scanner. When I switch it on I get a message telling me that an incorrect printhead is installed and asking me to install one that is correct. As suggested by someone I work with I have removed the ink cartridges and used a CO2 cartridge and also a wet soft cloth to clean the contacts. Unfortunately this has not solved the problem, can anyone suggest anything please? Thanks for your help.

I'm not that good on the techy side but are you using a Canon ink cartridge?
Most printers will show an error message if you use a substitute, but there is usually a continue button. If there is just ignore the message and press continue.

Yes as far as I know they are all genuine canon cartridges. I usuallly by from a company in the Channel Islands, but a couple have been purchased at great expense from a well known stationers on the High Street. They have all had the same packaging and markings, so can only asssume they are the real thing.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the chip. If there is no chip, your system will probably think it's the wrong cartridge.

Last year I had to replace my 3 year old canon printer because it quit working and gave me a maintenance needed error message.

I searched the internet and found out that the printer chip counted pages until it decided that I needed to change a sponge on the print head.

Changing the sponge is easy enough but I would have had to send the printer back to the factory to reset the chip. Not worth it for a $99 printer.

Go to www.canontechsupport.com and follow the thread to get to the support for your mutifunction machine and error message. Removing all the tanks and reseating the printhead worked for me, although it appears it didn't work for others.
I carefully wiped some of the ink from the edges of the printhead assembly, but don't know if this really did anything. My 830 is about 18 months old and I have been using both Cartridge World and Canon ink tank replacements.

I had the same problem with my Lexmark printer, changed the black ink cartridge with a genuine new one and nothing, put a Tesco black ink cartridge in and that one was recognised. So much for paying extra for genuine ones.
