Thread: Suggestion for eBid

If time contraints were added to RunTilSold, they would no longer BE RunTilSold.
A number of very good sellers, use this format, it's unfair to penalise them.

Just because somebody doesn't login everyday, or list everyday, or chat on the forums, doesn't mean they wouldn't attend to all questions, or sales as soon as received.

It's too easy to brand people as bad sellers when they are not, they are just busy people.

I would think a requirement to login to keep your listings active, would suffice.
The duration could be either every calendar month so a reminder could be sent on about the 23rd so they had 5 to 8 days comply,
or every 30 days, with a reminder at about day 23 - 25.
With a second reminder two days before, the time is up.
Those reminders should have no email opt-out.

Once the time is up, all the seller's listings should be closed (not deleted), but still available in their My eBid section, so they can relist if they wish.
I don't see why their account should be closed, with no items listed, they aren't hurting anybody.
If their account is closed, eBid have lost not only a seller, but we have all lost a possible buyer too.
How many regulars on the forums joined eBid long, long, before they started to use the site?

All of which followed is exactly what was being proposed.

RUS would remain RUS but some sign of life from the seller would be needed to keep them running. Whether that be by the simple act of logging in or by some specific action such as clicking on a 'Refresh Listings' button.

I think once a month would be reasonable. No auction should run that long (on a single run period) and any listing that goes a month without sale could bear looking at to see if it could be modified to improve its chances.

So the Christmas cards that I will change to RUS should be sold within a month or something is wrong with the listing. I don't think so.

I think when Astral said no *auction* should last over a month, that's exactly what he meant - auction, not listing - and he's quite right. Who's going to bid then wait over a month to see if they get the item?

It would be interesting to know how many people have tried the site and not returned because of absent non responsive sellers. It is a problem that needs to be adressed if the place is to progress. If someone isn't prepared to check in once a month to refresh listings then I don't think I would want to buy from that seller for sure.

I think your suggestion is a great one. Cleans up the site of 'inactive sellers' but doesn't burden the 'real' sellers who are busy and might have not visited the site for a while.

Surely a "real seller" would make sure they are never too busy to visit the sites that they sell on. That's one of the problems with "run til sold", it encourages people to list and forget.

Perhaps you're right, but Goth's suggestion eliminates the problem.
