One has to wonder where those TV Cash4Gold type companies get the money for all those very long adverts, the TV is saturated with them right now so they must be making a mint out of it, and they certainly won't be doing that by buying at the going rate. Wouldn't surprise me if they just sell it straight on to the nearest bulk gold buyer without actually melting it down or anything.
I just dread the thought that people are sending unique heirlooms or other items to them just to be melted down and for a fraction of their worth. To the right people some items will have intrinsic value way beyond their raw value in gold.
