    Default Selling techniques -

Hi - I was being a bit sarcastic ie you didn't need selling techniques on that place - you just followed orders - Scottish humour I think (or what passes for it). Regards.

Default I'm also new to eBid

I joined eBid today and I intend to start selling, much like others. I think I understand various points that have been made regarding multiples, but please bear with me if I ask the same, or similar questions.

I intend to sell some items as buy it now and I started creating an item to sell, but I backed out so that I'm clear about what to expect. Let's assume I have a quantity of 10 units to sell and the postage will cost £1.25, but if someone buys 2 then I would want to charge only another 15p, making postage £1.40, £1.55, etc...

I can't find an option that offers this feature.

If it doesn't exist, then I feel I should add an explanation on the product page so that it is clear to buyers that they won't be charged £2.50 postage if they buy 2 items. Otherwise it will give them the wrong impression and possibly deter them from buying.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated
    Regards
    Dave

What many of us do is state within a listing that discount is given on P&P for multiple buys and the discount is then applied to the invoice that you would send after a sale.

This is just 2 examples of what I put within a listing
P&P will be 55p (UK) for any quantity of trading cards, rates for Europe is £1.50 (max), Rest of the world is £2.00 (max).
UK postage will only be an extra 10p per extra item that is brought from this section
This is not a pimp, just giving you some ideas

    Hi all,
Thanks very much for the good advice. I like the idea to explain in the listing about the postage options. That will make it clearer and hopefully encourge them to buy another one to keep as a spare.

By the way... Nice friendly pig in the last post

I think I'm ready to create my first item for sale.

    Thanks again
    Dave

Hi Dave, and welcome to ebid.

You will find buyers don't like to mess around here. No bidding wars, no emailing, they just buy or do not buy. So is important to be clear about the rewards of buying from you.

With US I offer free shipping on a second item, which is wonderful for getting them to buy two. Also, I run a monthly sale which discounts 2nd items 25% and 3rd, 4th items 30%. Plus discount on shipping. So this gets them buying more. On ebid, buyers like to buy multiples. You lose a smidge of money on postage, but sell another item(s).

I also offer free insurance if item is worth more than $20. If under I tell them I will just refund immediately in case of loss. Very very few things get lost, but it is a very positive message as opposed to the usual feebay "I am not responsible once item leaves my hand, if you do not buy insurance that is your problem". This can make or break a sale.

Keep an extremely friendly note to your about me page and your listings. It is not necessary to warn them not to cheat you etc. People do not take kindly to that on ebid and will not buy from you.

If you want us to take a look at your listings and give you some hints, just ask. If you do not get a nibble or a bit in 2 weeks, come back and members will help you to change the listings to get sales. Read past forums for about 20 hints on selling too.

good luck on ebid (I loved that pig too).
