Thread: Curious about how this works

    Hi and welcome to ebid!

Counters/viewers go crazy once in awhile, they are acting up this week (one set of my napkins has 4999 viewers)! Your listings have a few viewers so someone is opening and looking.

Yes, add gallery, no one can see your great items unless they open, and that is a hassle. Make it easy to look.

To show up on google searches you must have listings set at 10 automatic reposts and added buy it now option. They show up on google within hours, I suspect google downloads at 3 am. You will get many new buyers thru these links.

No bidding wars, don't set low opener, set an opening bid you would be satisfied accepting. No reserve and buy it now about a dollar higher. That gives buyers options.

Title should help us (with size) and be searchable. Description is searchable too so should be expanded. When listings show on google you want people to open them, not pass them by.

Don't forget to contact your old customers and invite them over. That is best way to get those first sales. Market your stores, listings and ebid per past forum suggestions.

    good luck on ebid!

4 main reasons and 3 of them boil down to 'making it easy for the potential buyer' -

1 - No gallery photo so there's nothing to catch my eye. There's no upfront fee and only a 2% fvf for a gallery photo so not using one is a false economy.

2 - No sizes on your listings for women's clothes. There's plenty of room left in your auction title for this information. I don't want to have to continually open a listing just to find out that it's not my size. It can also give the impression that if the seller can't be bothered to provide this basic information what else can't they be bothered to do - wrap properly, send the item?

3 - I want to know, upfront, how much it will cost to ship. I don't want the hassle of typing information into a shipping calculator for every item I look at. If the seller can't be bothered to work out the shipping cost why should they expect the buyer to?

4 - Maximise your exposure. Add a buy-it-now price and you'll get free uploads to Google (though without a gallery photo it'll be even more of a waste of time on Google than it is here). Add a gallery photo and your items have the chance to appear on the closing bar in the forums and on the front page.

Sorry if that sounded blunt but them's the facts.

Looks to me like all the right things were said here. I agree...Also, pictures are nice to see when browsing listings.

Welcome to ebid & good luck.

It seems you are heeding the advice of others and have already edited your first 11 items with international shipping including UK.

I checked out your Me page and must give you a friendly warning that ecommerce links are not allowed on there, (nor on auctions or forums) It's best to remove it before eBid does.

Oh and as well as all the great advice the others gave, a link to your shop in your signature would be great for lazy tiddlers like me to just click on to see your wares.

Just one more thing, if you can take it . First, I think your prices are great! So please add more. .. if you have other teams (Colorado Rockies for example) ... as that will start you selling.

I used to be bothered by that lack too, minx. Then I figured out I can simply click on "All about ____" in the lefthand column of a post. This takes you to their home page which takes you to their stores or items. No keyboarding needed, just mousing.

Is it the consensus that you must have items on 10 automatic repostings to be loaded onto Google? I hadn't known that before now.

It used to be a genuine problem, but they added the "All about" link and the rest of the stuff when we asked for extra links. Another example of ebid listening - they may not be perfect in that regard, but they're streets ahead of anywhere else in my experience.

No, absolutely true. Selling is not as easy as it looks.

Good rule, never under estimate buyers. Potential buyers will not open 500 listings with no photo. After two they say "forgetaboutit". Nor will they bother to calculate the shipping (which we all know the seller can add $ to anyway). I like flat rate, which, yes, I know is not easy for heavier items, etc. But lets buyers know up front what the shipping will be.

And last point, I would never do anything to stop my stuff appearing on google, gee, get all new buyers that way. Excellent results, almost no effort for us!!

No it's not. You can opt for as many auto relists as you want (up to a max of 10 of course)

It's the Buy Now option that puts listings on Google.
