The Loch Ness Monster, a myth or monster that inhabits its namesake body of water in the Scottish Highlands, has been captured in an image on Google Earth ... maybe.
According to The Sun , Jason Cooke spotted "Nessie" while browsing the Web site's satellite photos. The shape is seen on the surface of the water and measures about 65-feet long. It appears to have an oval-shaped body, a tail and four legs or flippers.
The reports of the image gave believers, known as Nessieologists, a new bit of "evidence" to dwell on. The Daily Mail quotes Cameron McSporran, head of the Institute of Applied Nessieology at Inverness University (note: this institution could not be found with a Google search), "It's a dramatic and compelling image. It is probably the most important sighting since 1974."
The object in the image though may be the Ness Express , a boat that regularly tours the Loch looking for Nessie. Nonetheless The Telegraph reported that Google is sending its specially-altered camera, which is used to take images for its street view image, to Loch Ness on Thursday.
A Blogger for Cnet.com wonders what took so long for someone to investigate Loch Ness with Google Earth. Earlier this year someone pointed out that they discovered evidence of the lost city of Atlantis .
Odd images on Google's street view and Google Earth have been found with some frequency, including a house on fire , role players engaging in combat , random sleeping on lawns and other surprises .
