Thread: If this for real in the UK?

  1. #1

Question If this for real in the UK?

I do admit I did chuckle abit when I read it. Is it true?

UK School System Requires All Teenagers Get Certification In Knowing How To Catch A Bus
So students who can't get certified in anything else won't feel bad.

That doesn't surprise me. With so many young people being driven everywhere, they probably won't know how to catch a bus.

My family doesn't have a car so. My daughter has a severe learning disability and doesn't know how to catch a bus..and she is 25.

I don't remember actually teaching my son what to do but I suspect he learnt by example.

The article explains what the certificate is for though and it actually makes sense to me.

    No, it isn't true.
The linked piece is badly mangled and missing all relevant facts.

The story relates to a very limited number of pupils who took part in a small scheme which was run by one small part of a single authority. The scheme was intended to boost the skills and self esteem of a small number of children who were, let us say, academically challenged.

It does not relate to any other pupils in any other part of the country.

The linked piece does also contain a link to the newspaper article which contains more details.

I tend to not believe rehashed stuff from blogs and forums...I got to the most relevent source I can come up with.

Thanks for the reminder Damian...will take that on board when I am blogging and include the relevent article link when I want to include a story that is not of my own writing

The title is also wrong ! It says in the newspaper article that it was run by the youth services as part of a holiday scheme and not in schools.

I think it's quite a good thing it can be quite daunting for a young child, who has only travelled with parents before, to suddenly have to catch a bus by themselves.

Also some need to be taught to behave on public transport judging by a small minority of school children on buses I have seen ! Mind you that has always been the case !

They should not post that kind of stuff on the front page of your computer. I thought maybe there was something in the water over there. Oh well we had a Canadian die over here because his laptop caught fire and the house burnt down. People need to remember that a laptop needs abit of air flow under it to stay cool unless you have a cooling pad. This chap left it on a couch. He will not do it again though.

What is the world coming to when innocent internet surfers can be taken by surprise by rogue bloggers

I know who hot those laptops get. I don't have one but was surprised by the heat of my mum's laptop when I tried to move it.

Like you say...that guy won't make that mistake again

Can I change the name of the thread to "Is this for real in the USA?"
You have got to watch this one. It's a scary world out there. Found it on a middle east forum. No wonder they think there is problems in the USA

Jay Leno did these for years. Made me cringe.

I used to think it was a shame we get such a low turnout of voters in this country, until a friend pointed out that these are the people who don't vote.
