In Windows XP open Network Connections in the Control Panel, select your connection (wireless or wired - LAN), right click on it, then click Properties, scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), select it and hit the Properties button. In "Use the following DNS server addresses" insert 208.67.222.222 in the preferred box and 208.67.220.220 in the alternative box.
Now Windows will use the OpenDNS DNS server instead of Tiscali's.
In Windows Vista look for similar entries by clicking on Network in the Start menu.
this is what i followed
I agree with you there Jimbo, and I can only imagine how many people that may be.
This fiasco justifies my preference for large well-established companies such as BT, they've always been very quick to sort out any problems and this DNS thing was almost a non-event (update occurred well within the expected 48 hour period).
For any service provider company it is unforgivable not to ensure reliability, hot weather is no excuse as it was forecast and they should have contingency plans already in place (how about some air conditioning units? We had to buy a couple for our servers to cope with the heat, it wasn't that difficult). I would be looking to switch contracts ASAP if I was with any of the Talk Talk companies. They may look cheaper in the adverts but they'll get the money from you eventually, or you'll just receive a sub-standard service.
Rant over.

I'm with Tiscali and have only just managed to get in today. Yay I'm back... but what a wait.. Searched on forums and came across Goth's and Gazzas advice and finally got in using the open DNS thingy... Think I'll give up on Tiscali especially now that Carphone Warehouse/Talk Talk have bought them.
Noticed this reply on Tiscali
Hi,
Apologies for the delay, we are still awaiting an update on this situation, as soon as there is one you will be advised on this thread.

This issue is not only stifling business for us sellers, but you are losing out on new members to your website.
Are you able to chase Tiscali? If not are you able to get OFCOM involved.
How about these people

As far as I can see, you don't need to be a customer of the ISP you are making a complaint about.
Can they help?
