URLs changing!

Poo..that means changing probably a hundred or so links that are added to my blogs and my websites....and what about all those backlinks where people I don't know have added my links to their sites?....could run into thousands of extra batches of link changes

Isn't it possible for eBid to translate any incoming links so that a request for, say, uk.nine.ebid.net would automagically be directed to the correct new address of uk.ebid.net ? Would seem better than relying on every existing link out there on the internet to be fixed when eBid makes the switchover.

It ought to be, and they may well do so, but I wouldn't like to rely on it if I had a choice, so I'll update everything.

Sorry, one of the tenderfoots.... does this mean we need to change all of our signature links on here for example? and any links on Flickr or other self promotional sites? But places like your directory (Kim) you will change?

Your signature links all use the numbered server format, so if they don't put in some sort of patch, they will stop working. As Astral says, they ought to be able to refer old links through... but will they? If that's their intention, they ought to have said so in the newsletter. If it's not - lots of stuff will break.

This is where the ability to edit links in the bulk edit would come in really handy.
All my listings have a link to join ebid in them, most have links to store catagories as well.

The links to stores will be fine because I only use the uk.ebid link
(or their associated domain name) for them anyway

My newsletter hasn't arrived yet either, but least it's answered some of the questions I'd put in my thread re changes.

If this is all, that will impact us, re making changes, we've got off pretty lightly, Tho, I'm definitely not revamping my About me pages until I see if they've changed that section, or not.
(The width restriction on listings last time caught out loads of people, even tho Gazza had posted a warning.)

You can, surely? The edit appears to work at the html level. I've certainly changed img src URLs, so I'd expect to be able to change any other link.

Depends what link you used, and how eBid handle the change. All one can say at the moment is "maybe". I'll try to find out...
