Thread: Wedding Gown Catagory

  1. #1

    Default Wedding Gown Catagory

Wedding gowns should be listed under clothing, not under seasonal. Makes it much harder for people to find. People will look there first for wedding gowns and other wedding items. Weddings should probably have its own catagory, for example on ebay there are 30,000 wedding gowns listed on an average search. Makes hard to list with you when there is not a catagory and that could make you lots of money, since so many sell on auction.

Several of us have been asking for the 'womens' clothing' categories to be separated out - particularly for specialist shops - ie Plus size, Juniors, Lingerie. sports. bridal and formal, etc.

I think nothing will be done about this until we have the 'new' eBid ( which should be soon, by all accounts!)

"for example on ebay there are 30,000 wedding gowns listed on an average search".

PS - This isn't feebay, is it!
Why not take a quick look at my Stores?

    Hi Chic
I sell "other" wedding items (cake decos, invite supplies, etc) which would obviously not be looked for in the clothing category, but I agree with you that Weddings should have its own listing and does not belong in Seasonal.

How about the following subcategories under the main category of Weddings:
    >Clothing>Bride
    >Clothing>Groom
    >Clothing>Bridesmaids
    >Clothing>Groomsmen
    >Clothing>Flowergirls
    >Clothing>Pageboys
    >Clothing>Mother of Bride
    >Clothing>Accessories (garters, etc.)
    >Trimmings>Rhinestones
    >Trimmings>Sequins
    >Trimmings>Ribbons
    >Trimmings>Motifs
    >Jewellery>Rings
    >Jewellery>Other
    >Headwear>Tiaras
    >Headwear>Hats and Fascinators
    >Stationery>Invitations
    >Stationery>Paper and Cardstock
    >Stationery>Embellishments
    >Floral>Fresh Flowers
    >Floral>Silk Flowers
    >Table Decorations>Candles
    >Table Decorations>Glassware
    >Table Decorations>Other
    >Favours>Nets
    >Favours>Boxes
    >Favours>Bags
    >Favours>Almonds
    >Favours>Mints
    >Favours>Chocolate
    >Services>Transport
    >Services>Photography
    >Services>Music
    >Other

Does anyone think we need other sub-categories? For things like confetti, disposable cameras, etc?

I think my mind just exploded, sub cat sub cat sub cat.

However, it makes sense to create a separate category for Weddings because weddings are unique (& expensive) occasions with hundreds of separate components. These are currently scattered all over ebid. Unfortunately this creates an 'out of sight out of mind"situation, with many things overlooked because the bride just does not know she needs them yet!

BUT since a wedding category will not have millions of items, I ask for restraint in creating sub categories. Maybe: clothing, flowers, gifts (bridesmaids/groomsmen or bride/groom), sewing/tailoring, jewelry, etc.

Not only would a separate cat provide one stop shopping, but it would give sellers the often smart to add, second category which earns revenue too.

Despite the poor economy, I think having a sort of wedding boutique on ebid would increase sales and showcase many of the unique custom products that sellers are offering.

Okay, delta. Maybe just the initial sub-categories I suggested. We can add the sub sub-categories later - when there are millions of wedding items listed!

    You might want to include:

    Default wedding catagory

I just will not be able to sell on ebid until they get a wedding catagory of its own. If I can't find the wedding gowns and other items, how is a bride going to find them?
I have wedding items that sell like crazy on ebay that has not sold one here in over 8 months, I believe it is because brides can't find it, not that they don't want it.
I want to stop using ebay, but until there is something better out there I am stuck!

I have a suggestion. I suspect this is being stalled because a lot is being asked for, i.e. maybe we want a separate broad new category, or maybe we want 40 subcategories, or maybe???

How about taking it in steps? For Step #1. Request that "Bridal Gowns", "Bride's maid gowns" and "Bridal accessories" (or your broad suggestions, I am just guessing here) be added to women's clothing. That way you can pretty much put all your goodies in those three cats and list everything now.

Once you get those broad, easy to add, categories, then really think hard about what additional sub categories should be added under accessories. I am guessing that the "accessories" will have tons of items because it is so broad. So then for Step #2, propose that the accessories but split down further into albums, flowers, whatever.

But for step #2, my thinking is that you need less sub categories. Fine line between organization and fussy. Not every item needs a separate subcategory (since they are listed elsewhere anyway, i.e. crafts). When you have a 50 way split of a group of items,, most people will no longer window shop because opening 50 catgories is harder. Smaller chance they will spot that little extra item and buy it. But if you group similiar items together under broader sub cat. i.e.invites could also contain special pens, stickers, addressing software, etc. chances are greater than you will sell more. Buyers will say " I didn't know I needed the colored pens until I saw them under invites" " I did not know I needed the special haircombs until I saw them under veils." That sort of thing.

Also, by waiting and watching what shows up in accessories, you can make a better decision on how that category should be split to better organize those groups. Too premature to guess at Step #2 yet.

Why don't you try asking for it this way? It breaks everything down into two steps, the first very easy, and by the time you request the second part, you will know just how things can be done.

    Good luck.

    Suggested compromise:
New category for Weddings, with following broad sub-categories:
    Accessories
    Clothing and Headwear
    Stationery
    Cakeware
    Tableware and Favours
    Other

Re Dennis' suggestion for Wedding Planner, not sure if that's the kind of thing people will buy online - think they would want to discuss everything with planner first? Ditto for Transport and other services, compared to tangible goods.
But the Other category should take care of all that anyway.

Clothing would probably need further sub-categories from the beginning, but the others could be added to later.
