Thread: Where do I put my monitor?

  1. #1

Default Where do I put my monitor?

    Hey Good Morning

Hope someone can help me here?

My Pc is in my living room (family room), and we need to switch the room around,
I explained to my eldest son where things were going to go and he said, that I can't?!
Because my monitor would be near to a window, he says you shouldn't do that, I do seem to remember hearing it once myself too

My question is .. is he right

And what problem would be caused by it being near the window?

Any help would be really great

    Thanx

    karen

My monitor has been next to the window for years and never had a problem with it, the only problem as mentioned before was the sunlight on it makes it impossible to see

if someone could solve that i'd gladly sit and work on the laptop in the garden in summer

just stick it near the window, get some thick heavy curtains and keep them closed

Back in the "good old days" when computer monitors were all huge (and, if we're honest, pretty cr@p), I'd have said that you should avoid placing one near a window. This is partly because of the problems outlined above regarding viewing the screen, partly because of the additional artificial aging caused by the extra heating and cooling and partly because of screen bleaching from the sunlight itself. However, these days with new LCD/flat panel monitors, I can't see much of a problem. The reality is that the majority of people will change their computer kit a lot quicker these days than in the past. This means that the monitor is likely to be replaced long before it shows any additional problems due to artificial aging. So, as long as you can physically see what you need to, stick it anywhere you want to and if it gives you a problem, move it.
