There are probably quite a few auctions that are for charity but not actually listed in the charity section.

SOLAK and FTS are listed in the shop category = charity,

but when I list items I place them in the section for that item...

so the shops come up in the shop listings, but if someone wants a particular item then I have a better chance of them seeing it in that items cat...if you see what I mean.

I need to revisit my listings and see what is the best way to list...

Could my suggestion be considered? A charity marker with the charity listings appearing in the normal place for the item? With it being possible to search for the marker?

The only problem I can see is making sure the categories fit all the sites. Overseas to people in the UK, is pretty different to Overseas to people in the US.

As you have that recognised broad outline maybe an idea where each of the charities fit into it generally, say for instance Macmillan, or Marie Curie?
In my area they both work together & Macmillan are based in the local Hospice.

Until there are lots of auctions should there be too many sub categories?
Hi, i've added Special Events to the top level.

Marie Curie, Macmillan & the hospice are still three individual charities (unless it's a registered Marie Curie hospice).
Marie Curie is Cancer, Macmillan is Cancer, & hospices are all terminal illnesses, not just cancer (hope that makes sense lol)

Sub categories for charities could go on foreverrrrrrrr.

I suggest that we only submit the categories (top level & subs) which are actually going to be used now. But by preparing a framework of "top levels", it may save G&M time in the future if other individual Charities are requested.

eg. A request from a new member for the RNIB?
    (add) Sensory Loss: RNIB

    Just my thoughts....pls add more

I don't dislike or like your idea...

but for my part I don't want to list my items for charity higgly-piggledy in the charities section.

If someone is looking for an item, say a craft kit, they will go first to the crafts section ( not everyone uses the search buttons) and browse through the relevant category. Well, thats what I do.

If I then see that an item is for charity I will be drawn to it there...so the idea of a marker in the listing next to that item is a great one.

I don't want to be browsing through lists of different types of items in a charity listing. I support charities, but I visit here first to buy and if that items for charity then thats a bonus.

Not everyone who visits does so to buy charity items, and I want to attract as many buyers as I can.

If there were sub cats for the charities section then please make them generic...list charities by name and it could go on forever. Just because a charity is big doesn't make it better or more worthwhile.

I like your Idea Madeline, sorry I mean't to answer & got sidetracked.
Especially if the ability to filter searched by the symbol was available.

Maybe it would help if there was also a key to show what symbols were for, especially with the addition of the new business symbol. (I'd like a dropship one added as well).

I think listing lots of individual Charities would be counter productive,
the generic categories ie Animals - Elderly - Children ect are more than adequate.
They are also necessary because Charity Stores need to be able to be found as a store for browsers, but I would prefer my charity listings (other than YDC) to be in the CORRECT category for the type of goods, although I would probably add the charity cat as a secondary one on some listings.

thank you - my whole point is that most buyers will not browse the charity category. How on earth are they to guess what they will find there? If they want to support my charity, they can go to my shop. If they want a beanie baby, they might buy mine if it has a charity symbol next to it. They won't find it if it is hiding in the charity category.
