Thread: Memory problems

  1. #1

    Default Memory problems

I've just tried adding another 1meg of memory to the two 256MB currently installed. tried it in slot3 and it didn't recognize it, so removed existing two and tried it by itself in those slots, wouldn't even start up then. Any suggestions or do you reckon it's just a dead DDR RAM chip.

I think on some units there is a limit as to how much memory you can use. Had it with an old PC a few years ago and was told to get another motherboard ended up with a new PC.

DDR could be the wrong type or MB might not take 1gig sticks and might need a bios update.

Whats the make and model of your motherboard ? also there should be a sticker on your old memory and on the new one can you post what it says.

    It's a MSI K7N2 Delta Series MS-6570 (v1.x) ATX Mainboard

It says it can take from 64Mb to 1GB DDR DIMM Modules with a total 3GB thats with all three slots at max The two 256MB that both work fine are 333Mhz 184 Pin PC2700

The new 1GB one says 1G DDR 333 PC 2700 then underneath AE25D1284 M409B2 C746 which I presume is a manufacturing batch number

    Hi Ken,

Well the MSI board is not the problem.

Is it a low or high density 1gig stick ? I don't think high density DDR will work with your board..

I was caught out by this two years back.

Heres more info on low and high density DDR

Make sure you ask for low density it will most likely cost a bit more.

I cant say for sure this is the problem as I have had dead sticks before..

Hmmm thanks jimbo, not sure I am any the wiser ???? I have tried a second one this morning to no avail, so got a refund and have now ordered some online from Crucial Memory, so see what that does in a few days. Trouble is all the cables for various things I have plugged in the back would do credit to Womans Weekly knitting
