Thread: Items with bids - display current bid price in different colour

  1. #1

Default Items with bids - display current bid price in different colour

There is currently no way of telling if an item has bids or not except by clicking on the listing. And even then, it's not obvious. You have to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the bidders list.

Also, the flashing "r" symbol doesn't mean anything to a newbie to the site.

Would it be possible for the price of an item with bids to be displayed in a different colour? (bright £££ GREEN being preferable)

This would make it easier for potential bidders to see auctions that already have bids and encourage them to join in the bidding action. It also makes the site look busier and more "alive".

Yes, that would be great. We are getting more bids on our auctions now. If there is room for it to show the start price AND the current price, then even better!

For a long time I thought the flashing 'r' was a warning that there was a reserve on the auction.

I'd like to see if auctions have bids on without going into the page too.

I'd also like to have the 'p' for proxy bids removed as I think this can put people off bidding. I have in the past been going to bid on auctions that already have a bid but have seen that the high bidder has a proxy so I know that I probably have to bid more than just the set increment to be the highest bidder. If the 'p' wasn't there, I would probably bid and, whether I won the item or not, the seller would have got a better price.

I, personally, don't see the point of auctions with reserve prices at all. With no % listing fees, what is the advantage of a false low start price? When I started using auction sites, I thought it meant that 2 different people had to bid up to the reserve price to get it, like in auctions in the real world. I had a special collectable toy and I put the reserve as I thought that would avoid it going for the start price if only 1 person was interested in it

Sorry if I've gone off the original subject slightly, but I think it is all related.

In the auction listings, I would like to see start price (different colour if selling), current price, number of bids, no 'r' button. If there is room, then quantity, number of views and number of watchers would b ideal!

Me too! At first I didn't know what it meant, then I thought it was a warning. It actually means "no reserve auction or reserve price met".

The problem is that the colour red symbolizes - a warning, STOP!, danger, or don't go there. PLUS - it flashes as well. It's enough to stop many bidders right there in their tracks.

The "r" symbol should either be turned to GREEN - whichis an indication that or a symbol of - the coast is clear, abundance, fecundity, nature, life....(ok, maybe I'm going overboard here, but you know what I mean) or removed totally.

We just can't underestimate the importance of colours on the site as we humans are creatures of conditioning.

If there is room for it to show the start price AND the current price, then even better!

Agree with Toycrazy on this one. This should be shown on the listing - as a bidder, I like to see what the original price of the item was and how much it's gone up.
