    I've got a newish (+7) bidder too.

He asked me a question about combining postage 'cos he wanted 10 items so I answered and told him to search for 1NR too.

I think it would work better if more sellers joined in. It would also work better if people browsing the site didn't have to click on individual listings to see if items had any bids. - http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread.php?t=98254
Guess there's just not enough publicity at the moment.

I agree about the number of sellers - it would be good to see a few more names in the list but joining in is voluntary so it isn't something to get worked up about as far as I am concerned.

I posted on another thread about highlighting items that have bids but there seems to be just a handful of regular posters on these boards and I don't know how representative their views are of the eBid membership as a whole.

What I cannot understand is why, with items at this price, people are not bidding. It has to be because so few find them and of those that do, few have the confidence or know-how to buy them. That is why I am running the poll, to help estimate the ratio of buyers to sellers. Only then is it possible to target any sort of advertising that will reap any benefits.

As regards having to click an auction to see if there are any bids, since such a high proportion are bought on BIN here would that encourage buyers if they saw a long list of zeros?

Firstly, I think that a lot of items here are BIN because items are only getting one bid or not enough bids. If items with bids were shown more prominently and highlighted, the bidding activity should increase.
Undoubtedly, if the highlighting bids were introduced, there will be a long list of zeros to start off with. But once sellers know that that their auctions with bids will be more easily seen by people browsing, it will encourage them to list more items as an auction. And if people browsing can see which items already have bids, it will encourage more bidding activity. The list of long zeros will soon go down.

What is the point of an auction site if you can't even see which items have bids or not?

I think that's what G&M are probably concerned about - by changing the views column to a bids column, the site will look "dead". A year ago, that might have been the case. But the site seems a lot busier now - and it's a chance that has to be taken if this place is going to be known not only as a Buy It Now site.
