Just in the process of deleting the link from "the other place" to my blog site as I don't need the traffic from it anymore.
From now on will be advertising items that I have for sale at Ebid on my blog as well.
I hope that this will contribute to growth in terms of members, auctions and actual sales for Ebid and us all.

    Cheers and gl all

    Les

Well...the first idea that springs to mind is that you could get yourself into trouble with admin for linking to an e-commerce site in forums (or anywhere in eBid for that matter).

Other than that, it is really up to you to decide how prominent you wish the link to be.

Sorry, did I read the whole thread wrong? I thought it was a thread for linking back to eBid from your own website.

I'm trying to do everything possible to get eBid sales going but I'm not that clued up on everything web related, so apologise if I've done something wrong.

Can you tell me what the linking back to your site means?

The point I was trying to make (and clearly failing) is that your own site is an e-commerce site. You are not allowed to link to such as site anywhere on eBid - including forums. You did just that in your posts #153 and #154 above. I was simply giving you a 'heads up' that you could attract unwanted attention from eBid admin. You also had an email link on your About Me page - but eBid have already killed that.

Yes, you can link to eBid from your own site (eBid obviously have no issues with that). Where you place such a link on your site is entirely up to you though. How big a link do you want? How prominent (in relation to any other site content) do you wish it to be? Do you want it on every page? Where could it go without disrupting any current layout you wish to retain? These are decisions that only you (as the site owner) can make.

    I really am confused now

So you can link from your own website as long as its not a business site? so eBid do not want to have any links on a website where one sells their products etc? surely thats the idea so that eBid get the sales, no?

I didn't know I put an email address on the about me page.

No. You are not allowed to place a link ON eBid TO an e-commerce site (such as yours). You are allowed to link FROM any site TO eBid (as long as that site is not one that would bring eBid into disrepute by association).

    See:

    Site: http://uk.ebid.net/help_selling.php#29
    Forums: http://www.ebid.net/forums/announcement.php?f=72&a=3

The reasoning (I assume) is that eBid, as a business, does not want business diverted away from their site to another e-commerce site, or for their site to be used as an advertising medium for another business.

You are confusing me now because isn't that what I just asked?

Can you tell me what this whole thread IS about then?

I was simply going to do a link FROM my own website TO eBid but you are saying that is not allowed. How can that possibly be bad for eBid? If you are reffering to me putting my own website up, I was asking if someone knew how and where I would put a link on my website to eBid.

If I have got this all wrong then I am sorry and will not ask anymore questions.

Sorry, I give up. We are clearly not speaking the same language. Maybe someone else can explain.

Yes, precisely. Thats what I thought.

Right, can anyone else help me in putting a link in my own website back to eBid, before I give up and start smoking again.
