Improve Ebid - Be Realistic With Your Collectables

Hi all you folks who know more than me........lol

I've just found a listing for a "Penny Black" stamp, with a BIN of £1,1000!! Yet, when I have a look around the web at UK dealers, most say average is £20, & £250 tops for an absolutely pristine stamp. Am I missing something??

Ask them a question on the actual auction whether that's the genuine BIN or a typo.

"A Penny Black" is not sufficient definition to price the item - first there is the identity of the stamp - then its condition (they were cut out by hand so some have poor or no margins) - then the cancellation - red is relatively rare - then it is on cover which puts the price up further. It is authenticated (a bit more) and the nature of the original letter, which is included, has to be taken into account. Pricing such a stamp is not just a question of looking up the price in a catalogue.

That said, I think the stamp in question is still overpriced and I would not be buying such an item from an unknown seller online - and would want much more visual information as well.

I totally agree with you all, collectbales are priced too high on ebid. I am currently selling off my collection of 15000 originally signed items and am in the middle of the long process of listing my items on here, however i am selling at very low prices as i believe every person should have the opportunity to own a piece of history, memorabilia. However i am still struggling to attract the bids on items i have listed even though i purposely have listed them cheap with no reserves.

Been here a year now, and I cant find an acceptable way to get bids, the only way that works is BIN,

and with regards to price, its not EBAY or anything like it,
A totally different beast, as its already been said starting low to attract bidders want work,

collectables in pottery, BESWICK DOULTON, and others,
are hard to find buyers for,

many of my items have been listed for months got loads of hits, but no sales,

YET place them on ebay, they sell and for better prices,
pick the right time and day on the .com site, and its going to make good money,
so its not the price that I ask on here thats the problem,

I dont have an answer to the problem,

ITS great to have a site that dont charge the fees ebay charge,

BUT, no fees = no sales, so maybe its the buyer mentality

( they aren`t paying to sell, so it must be JUNK )

well they lose out on some real nice bargains,

at least in my store, I wont give the stuff away CHEAP,
my items have a book value that is checkable,

so a little below that is where I go, then add MAKE AN OFFER,

never had an offer made,

just accept the fact, it has to be for nothing with the postage paid, to move it,

I've been listing on Feebay for 3 years and have open 2 shops.
Its only the fact that I've know open a propper brick shop that I have started to look at other auction sites.
Some of the things I will be listing are Me To You Plush and other collectables, some Leonardo figureens and the like.
I see all web based sales as more sales regardless of the profit margines.
If i make £1 by selling an item for £9 then I have had a £9 sale that i would not have had if I wasn't listing on the web.
I suppose its easy for me being in a brick shop too, for me to say this but sales are sales.
Any way hope to do well on here thanks for reading.

too true good luck in your sales if you want maximum exposure for your listings try this also
remember you need to do this to get your items onto google
Google doesn't accept items that are auction only, they have to have a BuyNow price,but they can have an auction price as well.eBid upload ALL eligable items to google products 3 times a month,To qualify for uploads items need to be:
1) Legal
2) have a BuyNow price
3) Have at least 7 days remaining OR are On First Bid OR are Run Until Sold at 5am on the 8th, 18th and 28th of each month

I have found, after many years in the trade, that an Item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it…. The hard part is finding that price. I have also found that it don’t matter what a book say’s it’s worth you never get the book price or even close to it.

My bottom line is … so long as I get a bit more than I pay for an item I’m happy… better to have £1 in the hand than £2 on the shelf

Hmmmm, Agree and disagree with you there somersethedge, Yes an item is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay but a lot of the time I find that is a lot higher than "List" price or book price. I found the trouble with Feebay was if you put it up at a price you actually wanted, if it took a while to sell and you take into account monthly relist, store fee's, FVF fee's, PP fee's you could end up selling at a loss. So a lot of sellers just listed at a small profit to shift it quick. Unfortunatly this creates a very biased buyers market that knocks out the little guy with low volume turn over, Ebid goes some way to restoring a buyer/seller balance, no monthly fee's, and a very good FVF, I'm quite confident that I'll do well here, It may take a while but patience is the key.

I went coin shopping this morning here. LOL Had a good laugh. Some of the coin/ banknote stores dont have coins at all. Those that do are way over Priced. No wonder no one shops here. Who wants to have to search for a good deal.
Good thing I get bidders from my other site coming over here
