Red face HOW'S ABOUT THIS, Ken G., and All?!!!!

Damien Hurst the artist has been real busy lately! Here's his latest. "For the Love of God" made with a skull and 8,601 diamonds, for £14 million -- sold to one of his regulars for £50 million!

    WOW!

It's not just an ordinary skull, it's a replica cast in platinum.

I'm amazed it sold so fast. I thought he had only just announced it existed on the 1st June.

That is also very perceptive, I don't doubt that he has some talent, but his greatest talent is in courting contoversy which has made him famous. The top end of the art world is all hype, and I include the old masters, not personally,in this. But is any painting or artwork really worth £x million.

I think it is quite amazing actually. I saw a program where Damian Hurst was explaining the work.
All the diamonds are ethical ones and all the small ones are no more than 1 carat (or half a carat, I am not too sure anymore).
The only thing still human in there are the teeth from the real skull which was used to do the cast in platinum...

You are right Ken..and that's exactly what masterpieces can command...I actually do appreciate art, but a skull? Where the devil would you put it? On a pedestal to look at and risk it being stolen? in a vault not to look at? I just cannot bring myself to appreciate it, I'm afraid...Let's hope you make your millions without having to float away on a cloud, hey.

Well a lot of the great masters of the past have actually painted skulls (on canvas of course)...
    A fascination with death, maybe?
