    Talking genuine autographs

I sell genuine one off signed autographs soon i will be putting on a bass guitar hand signed by Oasis (reluctantly as it's to heavy to display on my walls) it's been a passion of mine collecting the autographs as I have met many celebrities.

I've not tried it, but I suspect that if you asked someone signing an autograph for a COA; they would probably tell you where to get off.

At least that would be the reaction from Geoffrey Boycott, from what I've been told he signed autographs at the recent Lord's test match. Each autograph was accompanied by the comment "ebay" as he handed the item back.

I reckon the only way you would get a COA signed (unless for charity) would be by folding it up so the person could not see what they were signing.

    Default Certificates?

I think the whole subject of autographs is a minefield. Are there COA's for autographs of any deceased people? If there were, how do you prove they are genuine?Who authenticates COA's?
Surely it is down to your own choice as a collector of autographs whether you believe it to be genuine or not?

I have a signed sleeve from The Jets single,Yes Tonight Josephine.

My POA,(Proof of Authenticity) is that I could take you to their doors & you could ask them if they're genuine!

Bluedounin makes a valid point Also, dont assume that because you sent off for an autograph from a celebrity, they have actually signed the piece...........i mean come on, can Mr smith who is world famous and on tour so much, that he has no time for his own family, really have enough time to sign autographs??

    Thats what secretaries are for

i used to buy autographs. Silly me used to believe they were all genuine. I know a lot are genuine, but so many are not. I paid a lot of money for one that wasn't. Once bitten, twice shy.

best authentication is a photo of you with the person signing and there are specialists who can tell a fake from a dud just by looking at the first bit of writing they do ,

These days it's entirely possible to lift a copy of a genuine signature from one piece and add it to another before printing.

It's a genuine signature, but a cobbled together fake. So is it still worth anything?

    Thumbs up autograph collecting

hi i have bean collecting autographs for over 10 years,i started of by mail. it cost me a lot of money at first, then you learn as you go along,i found the best people to get autographs from are from the older people who rnt that busy,if you go for the big actors like Bruce willis, tom cruise,ect.......... no chance of getting a authentic autograph they will be all pre-scanned r signed buy secretary, stamped.try to write a letter first and always ask for 2 signed pictures then you can compare the signatures cause no body can sign their name in the same place twice.then wait a while and send you're own pictures and if they r signed then you can compare them with the ones you got before.the other way is to collect over 20 autographs through the mail and send them of to an auction, what they will do is check them if they r real, when they have one this they will call you and tell you witch ones r real and witch ones r fake and you tell them to send the fake ones back, when you receive them you know they not real.then cancel you're action later and you will get the real ones back and that only cost you the postage money,
if you where to get autographs via mail i would go for the over 60's actors actresses, sport personalities, like stirling moss, jackie stewart, bridette bardot, lauren bacall,ect.......

i think the best way to obtain autographs is to attend the shows and you are guaranteed an authentic autograph and probley wont cost you as much if you purses it of any auction site,
i dont bother with writing fan mail any more i buy my stuff of a autograph dealer who actually runs some of the shows where the celebs attend, the actors are contracted with him and he has some good stuff

i have some of the autographs i have bought of them in the past listed on ebid please check them out, some good stuff at reasonable prices, i have only a few listed but have over 400 10x8 autographs(star wars, star trek,matrix,sg1,harry potter,dr who,007,red drawf, lost) boxing gloves ,footballers

hope this info was useful if not then i wasted 10 min of my time typeing the stuff

    happy autograph collecting
