    something to do with ophthamology, but not sure what it is, any ideas?

    its ok, i have found out, its for opening your eyelids and pulling aside your tear duct so a surgeon can operate on your eye.

    pretty gruesome contraption!

    It often looks to me like the only difference between torture instruments and early medical kit is the level of rust.

    pulling aside your tear duct?

    tear duct or tear gland?

    I did do a search for your instrument but couldn't find anything, have to say that optical equip really makes me cringe

    I see an opthamologist every six months, they'd done everything they can think of on my eye, I've never see anything like this.
    I'll take the picture next time I go and ask him if he knows what it is.

    It looks like the contraption they use in "A Clockwork Orange",
    which pulls the anti-heroes eyelids open.
