Linux Mint is the only version of Linux I have tried that hasn't blown my system apart on install. Though I am not sure I would be willing to put the work in learning it.

Yep, its a really nice OS, and its free!
I know that Ninja Lister is available for Linux but I thought I would ask to check if it was OK, don't fancy wasting time if it aint.

Would Linux Mint run on an old laptop that is not up to running XP?

    Should be OK.
There are so many distributions of linux that you are sure to find one that suits. Linux Pup will run on just about anything. Try Linux Ubuntu 10.04, the new one.

I would love to learn and use Linux. I would however only use a dedicated machine in case any problems occurred.
I have the feeling it would be like having a breath of fresh air in using a Linux operating system..
Alas just cannot find time to do anything but work, I am planning on retiring when I am 96. Then I should have time to really dig into Linux...

Linux really is a lovely OS, and gaining popularity every day, bit like eBid!
The new versions are so easy to use and if you have an older machine they really do fly on Linux. There are so many free programs for just about any need. It`s not difficult to learn or use, that's why so many media systems producers use it.
