Default anyone else given microsoft the boot and using linux?

    Hi all,
gave windows the boot 2years ago and havent looked back since. I'm using Ubuntu 6.06 linux distro. got it on free CD from Ubuntu and can use my camera (fuji finepix),printers (one epson cx44 and one lexmark z601) and scanner ( mustek parallel) and usb stick.
I'm on cable broadband and had no trouble setting it up

    Hi Jock,
I haven't but two of my nephews are using both, they like games too much to ditch Windows entirely.
Don't know if you're into games but apparently it's easy to get the early Broken Swords & Simon the Sorcerers running on Linux.

i use both xp and linux, i have one pc running xp and one running mandriva, have to have the xp one as my printer will not work with linux and some of the software i use you cant get on linux. my laptop runs off a flash key using a 50mb linux called DSL , totally safe and secure as my laptop has no harddrive which means if it gets stolen there nothing to worry about, all the operating system and all my files are on the 1gb flash key which is on my keyring. if i lose that i have a back up at home and both are encrypted.

    Hi,

I've been on Linux exclusively for nearly eight years. Never had a problem with driver support either. Matter of fact, there's hardware I use here that runs on Linux/Windows and absolutely not Mac

    Yay for Debian!

Ubuntu supports many more devices than Vista.

I've given it some serious thought but I'm not sure how to go about installing linux over vista. Any tech support on this? (Please consider me the typical end user - clueless).

That's a "me too", I'm on Feisty still, although I expect I'll upgrade at some point.

I too have scanner (Mustek bearpaw), Printer (Dell laserjet) and assorted other goodies running with it. Haven't sorted out the web-cam yet though. Got XP home running on the laptop (what it came with) and Xandros on the EEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee, which I love and goes with me everywhere cos it's so small .

I hate Windows, it's so slow and bloated compared to Linux, though I have to say, at the start Linux took some getting used to, and I still don't know where all the bits of the OS are without Googling.
